Summary: This first book on the esteemed decorator and tastemaker - known for beautiful interiors that are replete with tradition, saturated color, elegance, and Southern flair - will delight design aficionados. Richard Keith Langham's all-American interiors unite a traditional approach with dashes of whimsy, beautiful tailoring, and an exuberant color palette. Langham charms and inspires with a selection of city and country projects - waterside estates on Maryland's Eastern shore and Florida's Jupiter Island, gracious country houses in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, a grand town house in New Orleans, and city residences in New York, DC, and Memphis. Langham conjures his own brand of design magic by addressing his clients' rooms with the rigors of classicism, paired with an innate Southern predilection for paired-down elegance. Signature touches include custom-painted murals, curious antiques, and couture fabrics - motifs that both manifest Langham's design expertise and echo his early influences from working with legends Mark Hampton and Keith Irvine.

Library Journal Review

This amazing work is beautifully photographed and as brilliantly crafted as the homes designed by superstar interior designer Langham. Successfully showcased are 13 of Langham's outstanding designed homes, ranging from manor houses to barns, from seaside jewels to town homes, and listed under the delightful headings of "Georgian on My Mind," "Barn Again," "Tropical Punch," and "Bricks and Bones," among others. The illustrations bear witness to Langham's genius in decorating for personality, suitability, and comfort, as well as Southern charm. He successfully mixes the traditional feel with touches of contemporary and the one-of-a-kind, and his rooms range from restrained subtlety to a cacophony of color and patterns with a diverse combination of styles, textures, and surfaces. The closing section, "From Brewton to Manhattan," serves as a mini-biography and career summary of Langham's journey from Alabama to New York and beyond, his work with the firm Irvine & Fleming, and captivating stories of his encounters with clients Mr. and Mrs. -William F. Buckley Jr. and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Langham designs for every type of setting or location. VERDICT This delightful book would be welcome in any type of library and especially those with a focus on the decorative arts. Highly recommended.-Stephen Allan Patrick, Jonesborough, TN © Copyright 2017. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
