Booklist Review

In the latest women's fiction epic by the prolific Lewis (No Turning Back, 2011), Lucy Winters starts a normal, busy life of running her parents' auction house in Gloucestershire, England. A fading marriage, a rebellious teenage daughter, a son heading off on his gap year, and a small bevy of friends round out her typical middle-class life and almost make her forget the loneliness and sense of not belonging that colored her childhood and adolescence. Her life rolls along a bumpy yet vaguely satisfying course until the fateful day she stumbles across an old newspaper clipping her parents kept in a box. The story it holds sends Lucy blindly careening into secrets, lies, cover-ups, and revelations about the person she thought she was, so tangled and ultimately shocking that they rock her world to the core. Filled with the detail-rich padding expected of the genre, this story satisfies on all levels. Like a British Jodi Picoult, Lewis excels at entertaining in a manner that is sensational at heart yet, in execution, understated and quietly enjoyable.--Trevelyan, Julie Copyright 2010 Booklist
