SET YOUR GOAL ONCE YOU'VE HIT IT Two boys were standing by a pond, taking turns throwing stones. After a while, one of them started shouting "Hit!" after each throw. Once I'd seen this a few times, I suddenly realized what was happening. The boy had only set his target after he'd first hit it several times. From then on, that was what he did every time. Every throw was a hit. Defining your target in advance is the conventional approach, and not a bad one, but it does have its drawbacks. For a start, you can end up staring blindly into the future, at your goal, and so forget that you've already achieved something. Sometimes you've even achieved the goal itself, without even noticing.
