Booklist Review

Sailor or landlubber, there's something mesmerizing about the water that appeals to all. Australian quilter Anderson takes that intrigue a few steps further (and suggests a rather major time commitment) through her dozen quilted items. Not everyone is ready to make a full-size quilt; other stitching options include a needle roll, duffle bag, pillow, and pencil case. Cool blues, greys, and greens dominate, as does an almost naïve style of design. Each well-photographed project provides sophisticated and thorough directions, including materials, finished size, color key, illustrations, assembly, adding borders, quilting, and finishing. Techniques are explained in the last chapter and appendix, in which Anderson goes into detail on the necessities, from sewing seams and pressing work to patchwork, appliqué, and labelling. With the seagulls, nautical flags, and ships of varying sizes parading across the fabrics, it'll be difficult to choose just one favorite. Appended with embroidery stitches, 23 pages of full-size templates, and a list of suppliers.--Barbara Jacobs Copyright 2019 Booklist
