Library Journal Review

In this colorful and imaginative book, blogger (homeschoolon.com) and -stay--at-home mom Spooner details how planning one's days and weeks not only helps us stay on track but also releases our artistic side and can serve as a diary of sorts. She discusses both cerebral and creative planning and offers suggestions for devising schedules, listing weekly meals, and setting goals. Spooner combines art and organizational ideas through illustrations using fanciful fonts and cartoon drawings. Those who have difficulty with planning or journaling will be inspired by the multitude of projects and options for personalizing their daily and overall life story. VERDICT A unique approach to both journaling and daily planning. © Copyright 2018. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.

Booklist Review

Spooner gives planning a whole new dimension, plus artistic flair and joy. Forget calendars, print or electronic; instead, Spooner recommends a combination of cerebral and creative approaches to arranging schedules and tasks. At play are various creative materials, like pens and notebooks as well as different formats for plotting (daily-weekly, monthly-quarterly-yearly). Readers will also ponder Spooner's tips for overcoming obstacles to remain dedicated and diligent planners. The variety alone of planning methodologies enumerated might make readers take a nap, but Spooner offers choices. Track habits or time. Maneuver between meal, work, and student responsibilities. Or divvy up tasks related to family, home, personal growth, entertainment, and/or service. The illustrations and 11 step-by-step examples (with color photographs and supplies, time, and difficulty indications) are charming yet daunting in terms of time expended. Applause for this first-time author who's got no time to spare: she also homeschools her five children. Appended with resource lists, fonts, and templates.--Barbara Jacobs Copyright 2018 Booklist
