Reviews provided by Syndetics

Publishers Weekly Review

Matter, famed for his 10 Minute Photo Challenge videos on YouTube, presents photographs of children and teens in balletic, gymnastic, and other dance poses. Accompanying the images are quotes and poems from the people in the photos and famous individuals that underscore the visual expressions of joy, defiance, frustration, perseverance, pride, and playfulness. The dancers perform pirouettes, leg lifts, arabesques, and leaps in public spaces (restaurants, stores, sidewalks), as well as in more private scenes (while taking out the recycling, walking a dog, reading at home). Throughout, Matter includes short, personal essays that, while often poignant, do not always harmonize with the energy and emotion of the compositions. All ages. (Oct.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC.
