Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

Mother's Day in sleepy Longely, New York...what could go wrong? When an overworked mother's prank turns deadly, catering sisters Bernie and Libby Simmons must cook up a plan to clear her name...

Bernie's college roommate Ellen Hadley is burning the candle at both ends. And after her children forget her birthday and her husband forgets their anniversary, her Mother's Day expectations are understandably modest. When Bernie jokingly suggests Ellen fake her own kidnapping to set her family straight, she never imagined the stunt would find Ellen in a hotel room next to a dead body. Bernie can't help but feel guilty for helping her friend concoct a recipe for disaster, so she and her sister Libby enlist the help of Ellen's kids, and together, they must race to find the true culprit-before Mother's Day is postponed indefinitely...

"Includes original recipes for you to try!"--Page 4 of cover.

Library Journal Review

Mother's Day is coming. Sisters Bernie and Libby Simmons, who run A Little Taste of Heaven Bakery, are preparing their favorites. But Bernie gets a call from her dear friend Ellen Hadley, who has, unfortunately, taken Bernie's flippant advice to pretend to be kidnapped to get her family, who have a bad habit of forgetting special occasions like Mother's Day, to appreciate her. Ellen has discovered a dead man in her room at the rundown Riverview Motel; how does she convince the police it's all a big mis-understanding? As the body count rises, who could be killing the good citizens of quiet Longley, NY, and why? VERDICT The 11th title in Crawford's charming culinary series (after A Catered Fourth of July) concocts the perfect recipe of family dynamics, tasty food, and fun. Publishers Weekly Review

With Mother's Day looming, Ellen Hadley, the disgruntled wife and mother at the center of Crawford's engaging, dialogue-driven 11th mystery with recipes (after 2014's A Catered Fourth of July), decides to get back at her ungrateful husband, Bruce, and two negligent sons, Ryan and Ethan, by faking her own kidnapping. A ransom note is supposed to lure Bruce to the Hudson Valley's rundown Riverview Motel, where Ellen is hiding out, but the discovery of a dead man in her motel room instead brings the police, who suspect Ellen of killing the man. Ryan and Ethan ask their mother's college roommate, caterer Bernie Simmons, and Bernie's sister, Libby, for help in exonerating her. A series of murders in Longley, N.Y., leads the sisters, who are amateur sleuths, to believe that Ellen and Ellen's partner in her dog- biscuit business, Lisa, have secrets that connect them to each victim. Booklist Review

Bernie and Libby, sisters who run a catering business in Longley, New York, fall into a slapstick caper in between making delicacies for Mother's Day at their busy shop. Bernie had no inkling that her friend Ellen would take her seriously when Bernie suggested, purely facetiously, that Ellen should pretend to be kidnapped to get some appreciation from her husband and three boys. Surprise! Ellen calls the sisters to report that she has found a dead body in the hotel room where she is hiding as part of her faux kidnapping. They rush to Ellen's hotel, find that she has run away, and attempt to follow her trail, much to the consternation of the police. Turns out the murder victim had a history with the sister of Ellen's business partner's husband, which prompts Ellen's sons to hire Bernie and Libby to help prove Ellen's innocence. Readers will follow these chaotic doings with interest, mainly because of the quirky, off-center appeal of Bernie, Libby, and Ellen's sons. And let's not forget the recipes for some of those Mother's Day delicacies.--Alessio, Amy Copyright 2015 Booklist
