Summary: Humans of South Auckland is an idea based on Brandon Stanton's Humans of New York Facebook page. A team of volunteers who believe in developing hope and pride in their community and seek to tell the real stories of everyday South Auckland people. While teaching at a secondary school in South Auckland, Jasmine Jenke saw the daily struggles of some of her students. Jasmine decided to do something that would give South Aucklanders hope, passion and reasons to live. Jenke felt the need to tell real, raw stories that people could relate to, especially those who felt there was nothing left for them. She wanted to tell stories and explore real issues of everyday South Auckland people so that others reading it could connect in some way. Those stories turned into 'Humans of South Auckland', a social media movement and with the help of an AMP Scholarship, a team of volunteers and the support of Ko Awatea and Counties Manukau Health, became a print book.
