The book's design allows for a thorough examination of Kandinsky's most important works in all their extraordinary detail. Library Journal Review

First produced during the 2008-09 Lenbachhaus show in Munich, Germany, Kandinsky. Absolute. Abstract, this large volume, divided between reproductions of artworks and text, contains nine biographical and social essays on the life of Russian-born artist Vasily Kandinsky (1866-1940). Not aiming to be a complete portrait nor a formal analysis of his output, these writings provide supplementary materials on overlooked or obscure aspects of Kandinsky's experience, such as the influence of Russian economist Sergei Bulgakov, or the interior design of the artist's home in Murnau, Germany, which he shared with painter Gabriele Münter. The essays draw heavily on Kandinsky's letters and publications and are written by seven respected curators and art historians, including editors Friedel (formerly Stadtische Gallery, Lenbachhaus) and Hoberg (Lenbachhaus). This work is similar to the Tate publication Gerhard Richter: Panorama, and Acquavella Gallery's Jean Dubuffet: Anticultural Positions. Verdict A solid addition to libraries that already have detailed biographies of Kandinsky and selections of his writings, such as the 1911 publication On the Spiritual in Art.-Jessica Spears, Brooklyn P.L. © Copyright 2017.
