Library Journal Review

Marchant's first book, Knitting Brioche, introduced knitters to brioche stitch, which forms a reversible, heavily textured fabric suitable for a variety of garments and accessories. In this follow-up, the author shifts her focus to two-color brioche stitch, expanding on the possibilities of this versatile technique. Instructions for knitting the stitch, including increases, decreases, and flexible cast-offs and bind-offs are provided. Visual learners will appreciate the step-by-step photographs that accompany the text. The bulk of the book is a stitch dictionary of two-color brioche patterns of varying complexity, including both written and charted instructions. The final section is a series of 12 shawl and scarf patterns knit in eye-catching luxury yarns, further demonstrating the possibilities of brioche stitch. Throughout the book, Marchant does a wonderful job of breaking two-color brioche into its component parts, reducing its complexity and making it accessible. VERDICT Marchant is widely recognized as the expert on brioche stitch, and her continued explorations of such knitting will appeal to experienced knitters looking for the next big trend.
